What is DNS?
The Domain Name System is a system of mapping names to IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they're easier for humans to remember. The Internet, however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, DNS translates the name into the corresponding IP address. It is similar to a phonebook for the Internet.
When a domain is registered the registrar contacts the top level root servers to indicate the domains DNS settings/zone file for the newly registered domain. This DNS information is then propagated downward to other DNS servers, eventually the visitors ISP's DNS servers are updated and provide the domain and IP resolution back to the client.
Client Testimonial:
Olu Gittens - "My experience with Flux Services has been excellent! The control panel is very usable and easy to navigate. They offer 3 different choices of email software. Flux offers a number of services, including automatic Post Nuke installation, as well as e-commerce, blog and bulletin board set-up via Fantastico. But most of all, their support team is VERY accessible. When I needed the help, they manually transferred two different CMS-based sites over for me. They've readily answered all my questions. Their customer support is thorough, on time and upbeat. No question is too small for them. This is a web host you can really grow with."
